The Federal Road Safety Corps has attributed the car crash involving Anthony Joshua to excessive speeding.
Joshua, a former world boxing heavyweight champion and three others survived the crash, while two others in the company died on the spot.
According to the FRSC, Public Education Officer Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, over speeding and wrongful over taking was primarily responsible for the crash which occurred Monday afternoon at the Sagamu area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
“The Lexus SUV, suspected of speeding, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and hit a stationary truck,” said Mr. Ogungbemide said in a statement.
Meanwhile Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed that Joshua was doing fine and needed no urgent medical intervention.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and share in their grief at this painful moment. We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“Following thorough clinical evaluations, medical professionals have confirmed that Joshua and the other survivors are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time. A full medical team has been constituted and will continue to monitor them closely.
“We can also confirm that Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in contact with his family.”
