Anthony Joshua was lucky or perhaps it was divine intervention that made him swap seats with one of his associates who died on the spot in a horror December 29, 2025 car crash.
When Joshua was picked at the airport by Kayode Adeniyi his regular driver, he was perched at the front passenger seat. But midway into the journey from Ikeja Lagos to Sagamu Ogun State, the driver complained that Joshua because of huge frame was blocking his view mirror. He stopped for Joshua to swap seats with Latif Ayodele.
A few moments later the crash occurred along the Lagos Ibadan express way claiming the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, while Joshua and Adeniyi survived with minor injuries.
Adeniyi was in court Friday where he pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless driving brought against him by the police.
His lawyer Olalekan Abiodun told the Daily Mail: “My client has pleaded not guilty and what happened was an accident, I haven’t had a full chance to speak with him yet but I know he is saying the brakes did not work.
“I also understand that the journey started in Lagos and that initially Anthony had got into the front seat but the driver asked him to swap seats.”
“This is said to have happened because Joshua’s big frame meant the driver couldn’t see the wing mirror properly so asked him to switch and sit behind the driver.
“From what I understand Latif was in front and then changed seats with Anthony,” he added.
