Victor Boniface will consult with experts Wednesday January 8 to know whether to undergo a knee surgery or wait for a miracle cure.
Boniface has been out of action since early December following a knee injury at Werder Bremen where he is on loan.
“Victor will travel to Innsbruck to see knee expert Prof. Dr. Christian Fink for an examination with a view to a possible operation,” Werdet Bremen Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer, told the club’s official website.
He added that the striker’s return timeline will depend entirely on the diagnosis.
“We want to wait for the examination results first. The next steps will then be determined based on that. I ask for your patience in the meantime.”
Boniface was absent from Bremen’s training session on Friday as preparations intensified for the Bundesliga’s resumption.
Knee surgery could keep Boniface out of action for the rest of the season and potentially end his career in Europe.
