Nigeria’s Super Eagles Monday swept into the quarter final of Africa Cup of Nations with a 4-0 thumping of Mozambique’s Black Mambas at Fez Stadium in Fez, Morocco
After four games of the AFCON, the Super Eagles are beginning to look like serious candidates for the title and the other teams remaining in the tournament need to worry.
Ademola Lookman opened scoring in the 20th minute in a game Nigeria totally dominated, with a strong performance from the middle trio of Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi.
Lookman and Victor Osimhen seem to have jelled perfectly well; Prophet Ayodele needs to dust up his crystal ball to see clearly.
In the 25th minute Osimhen profited from a Lookman cross and jabbed the ball into the net, he had earlier been flagged offside and goal ruled out.
The Mozambicans were totally overwhelmed and looked dispirited when Osimhen added the third goal for the Super Eagles in the 47th minute.
The Black Mambas struggled to gain a foothold, with winger Geny Catamo kept quiet by a disciplined Nigerian defence marshalled superbly by Calvin Bassey. Keeper Stanley Nwabali was hardly made to sweat.
Adams Akor put the icing to the cake when he scored the fourth goal of the match in the 70th minute.
The Super Eagles will now play the winner of the Congo DR v Algeria tie on Saturday.
Speaking after the game Lookman man of the match said:
“We are very happy. Good performance from the team. Four goals, so what’s not to be happy with?”
