Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved to Marrakesh where they will play in the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Super Eagles Monday night knocked out Mozambique 4-0 with goals from Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen who scored a brace and Adams Akor. But what dominated discussion was Oshimhen’s light fused outburst as he confronted Lookman and Bruno Onyemaechi for not laying passes for him.
However, the team seem to have put the episode behind and are thinking about how to navigate the quarter-final where they would either face Algeria or Congo DR on Saturday.
“Coach Eric Chelle has calm down the situation and the players seem to understand why Osimhen was angry,” said a football official in Fez.
“Osimhen wanted the team to finish strongly and not relax as they were leading 3-0, and so he was furious chances that should have been converted are fretted away.”
Lookman himself downplayed the episode saying: “I don’t think that matters. Vic is our number one guy; everybody knows this. He’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn’t matter.
“We have a big battle ahead in the quarter final and that is what matters for us.”
Also, team captain Wilfred Ndidi said Osimhen was passionate and wanted the Super Eagles to go for more goals hence his furious reaction to the missed opportunities.
” Victor has competitive attitude, which I like because we want more. We, we’re going for more. Yes, we miss so many chances. It’s just when you want more and it’s not coming. So, I feel I’m very happy with the attitude because everyone wants more.”
