South South APC group reveals Fubara’s “sin” against Wike…Rivers elders kick against impeachment

All Progressives Congress South South Group has accused Nyesom Wike and his allies in the State House of Assembly of arm-twisting governor Siminalayi Fubara to approve “fictious contracts” in the 2026 budget proposal.
And because Fubara refused to comply, according to the group, the State House of Assembly loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister Mr. Wike, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.
“What is unfolding in Rivers State is not a constitutional dispute but a deliberate attempt to punish a sitting governor for refusing to mortgage public finances for private political interests.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara did not breach the President’s peace accord; rather, he refused to add fictitious projects to the Rivers State budget, and that refusal is now being weaponized against him” the coordinator of the APC South-South Group, Freedom Amadi told newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He added that it was not about breaching peace according with Wike, but it is all about contracts, which governor Fubara is not willing to dance along.
Meanwhile, the Rivers Elders and Leadership Forum (RELEF) said the Rivers Assembly move to impeach Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu was not justified and not in the interest of the Rivers State people.
“Rivers State has yet to fully recover from the political, social and institutional disruptions of the recent emergency rule.
“Our people are still bearing the consequences of that episode, and the present development risks reopening old wounds and heightening tensions,” he added.
“We will not remain silent in the face of actions capable of threatening the stability, dignity, and future of Rivers State.
“We appeal for wisdom and restraint to prevail in the overall interest of the people. We urge all stakeholders to allow the state to heal and move forward,” said acting chairman of the Dr Gabriel Toby, a former deputy governor of Rivers said this in a statement on Saturday.
Toby warned that impeachment was a grave constitutional process and must not be deployed as “an instrument of political vendetta or factional rivalry.”
He said the allegations against Gov. Fubara appear to be driven by narrow personal interests rather than any sincere concern for good governance in the state.
