Former Rivers State governor and presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has boasted that nobody can dislodge him from the political landscape of the troubled State.
Wike has been at odds with his predecessor Siminalayi Fubara over who controls the resources of the Rivers State, a situation that led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu and the Rivers State House of Assembly members in a state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu. Political observers believe that it was Wike who prevailed on Tinubu his ally to make the move.
Fubara returned to his post in September 2025, but it seems his relationship with Wike is still on ice. Last week the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike moved to impeach Fubara and Ngozi Odu.
Speaking to supporters on Saturday Wike said he remain the strong man of Rivers State politics and he would continue to fight to maintain his strangle hold on affairs of the State.
“Nobody in this state can push us out. We have led this war since 2023, and we have never reneged. There was no number of threats that did not come, yet we stood firm,” Wike stated.
Meanwhile speaking on Sunday at Obiora/Akpor area of Rivers State, Wike said President Tinubu was free to sack him as FCT Minister, if he was no longer useful to him.
“Don’t bother about people who say sack me because it doesn’t lie in their mouth, if my appointor believes that I can’t offer anything again he has the right, it’s not that you should tell him.
“But I’m very proud, Obi/Akpor people are proud, Rivers people are proud and we can tell Nigerians that we have not disappointed them as far as FCT is concerned.
“I said it yesterday in Port Harcourt and I want people to note this clearly. If you are not doing well, nobody will talk about you.”
