As US President Donald Trump continue to escalate rhetorics on his quest to take over Greenland the European Union said it would stand in full support for the Island nation and Denmark its parent country.
According to Sophie Von der Leyen President of the EU Commission the sovereignty Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark is “non-negotiable”.
Speaking in Davos, she says the EU will be working with both Denmark and Greenland “hand in hand” on how to best support their local economy and infrastructure.
The EU will also work with the US and all partners on “wider Arctic security”, adding that this is in “our shared interest”. This also means using the EU’s “defence spending surge” to invest in Arctic security.
She also said the “common security” between the EU’s partners – including Canada, Norway and the UK – is important.
“I believe Europe needs to adjust to new security architecture,” she says.
