Ndidi who had a good outing with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco is reportedly devastated by the unexpected loss of his dad, who is his biggest fan.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” Wilfred Ndidi’s club Besiktas said in a statement released via their official X account.
“May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”
During the Africa Cup of Nations Wilfred Ndidi revealed that his father was a great fan of former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu and it was the reason he decided to honour Kanu with his famous Atlanta 1996 dance when he scored against Tunisia at the AFCON.
“The celebration came from my dad because he was always talking about Kanu Nwankwo,” Ndidi told journalists in Morocco.
“So I just thought about my dad. I had seen the video before, but it came to my head, and I said I was going to do it for my dad,” Ndidi said during the AFCON.
