The military authority has in their custody a Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi for his alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
According to reports which quoted sources within the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Amandi was arrested in September 2025.
It was gathered that Amandi was allegedly engaged as a media propagandist by the suspected coup planners, reportedly working towards the assassination of top government officials.
The Defence Headquarters had confirmed the existence of an unlawful plot to unseat the current administration, adding that those involved would be tried before military judicial panels.
It stated that investigations had been concluded and submitted to “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
According to the military, the probe is “comprehensive”, covering “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”
The statement added that the inquiry uncovered “a number of officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government”.
It emphasised that such conduct was “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
