The Nigerian short film, Tears for Enebi, has been selected for screening at the Miami Beach Film Festival.
Claudius Kayode-Summ, Reel Coordinator at Solution Media Studios, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria Friday in Abuja.
He said the 16-minute film portrays the real-life ordeal of Enebi Annah, a celebrated beauty queen and poet, whose life is upended when her trusted mentor and confidant rapes her.
He noted that the deepest betrayal is revealed in a shocking twist: the perpetrator also leads Africa’s most prominent anti-rape organisation.
“Since its debut, the film has been selected for nearly 20 film festivals worldwide, including the Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles, where it won Best Women Short Film and Best Actress for Rahmah Zakareeyah’s performance,” he said.
He added that the film has also been featured at The Film Collective Film Festival in Virginia and several other international festivals.
The Miami Beach Film Festival screening, scheduled for May 5, 2026, marks Tears for Enebi as one of the few African short films showcased at the prestigious event.
Produced by Godspower Oshodin in association with Solution Media Studios, Mogson Productions, Purplemat Entertainment, and M2Net Studios, the film is co-directed by Seunmanuel Faleye, Peter Atigogo, and Sunki.
It features Foluke Daramola, Rahmah Zakareeyah, Seunmanuel Faleye, Kika Oshodin, and Aitaya Hansley. Summ said the film is part of a larger advocacy-driven series by Oshodin, including upcoming projects With Last Debt and I Don’t Blame You, set for release later this year.
Actress Rahmah Zakareeyah said portraying Enebi was an opportunity to contribute to societal awareness on rape.
“I did my best to embody Enebi’s character with respect and empathy,” she said.
Veteran actress Foluke Daramola, who made a guest appearance.
She said: “When Dr Oshodin invited me to be part of Tears for Enebi, it was an immediate yes. Advocating against rape has been my passion since I was young. The film addresses urgent issues and is based on a true story”. (NAN)
