Manchester City came from behind to snatch a dramatic win at Anfield beating Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday.
Dominik Szoboszlai smashed Liverpool ahead with a stunning long-range kick, but Bernardo Silva levelled up and Erling Haaland scored from the penalty spot to hand City the win.
What could have been a third goal for City was cancelled. Rayan Cherki’s long range effort was rolling lazily into the net after Liverpool goalkeeper Allison had gone up front to search for a goal.
But Haaland and Szoboszlai tugged at themselves as the ball advanced into the net and the referee blew for infringement. He awarded a free kick to City, while Szoboszlai was given the marching orders.
“If we lost the title race would have been over,” said Bernardo Silva man of the match.
“Coming here to Anfield is the toughest place in the Premier League by far. For most teams, a draw is not a bad result. We needed another goal and Erling got us that one.
“I’m very happy but these points count as much as any point any other day. It’s been frustrating since the beginning of the year because we did not do our job properly and we could be closer to Arsenal.
“The whole team knew before the game that if we lost this game that the title race is over.
“That puts us a bit closer (to leaders Arsenal), the hope is there and we will fight until the end. We need to keep doing our job.”
