Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is eyeing the Olympique Marseille job after the French Ligue 1 club parted ways with their manager Roberto De Zerbi on Wednesday morning.
According to French sports daily L’Équipe, Chelle is one of the three coaches that is in the running to take over the management of the club. Habib Beye and Sergio Conceicao are the two other names in the mix for the job.
Chelle led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in January. Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau hinted that Chelle is still their man for the Super Eagles job even as Nigerian football fans debated whether he should stay on or leave.
“We still have a one-year contract with Eric and therefore whatever anyone will show on him, he has to wait until his contract expired.
“And basically, you know, we don’t want to bring some distraction on him because we quite well understand that he enjoys working with Nigeria, “Gusau said.
The Franco-Malian born Chelle a few days ago in an interview expressed thought his wish to continue as Nigeria coach, but according to it all depends on the NFF. He recently spoke of his ambition to be the first African coach to manage Real Madrid of Spain.
