Nigeria’s only internationally recognised technical official Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama rtd, has been appointed by the World Athletics as the International Technical Official for the World Relays billed for Gaborone, Botswana in May 2-3, 2026.
Commodore Nesiama has officiated in several World Athletics and Confederation of African Athletics competitions.
According to a letter signed by Bobby Gaseitsiwe on behalf of the World Relays CEO, Nesiama was selected based on his experience and competence in handling technical and officiating matters.
The former Athletics Federation of Nigeria is widely known in the athletics circle as a man of professional integrity who is always on hand to resolve issues.
He was the chief technical official at the 2023 African Games in Accra Ghana and also he has been penciled down to play a similar role at the 2026 African Championships.
His administrative influence at home remains equally significant. He was recently appointed as chairman of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Technical and Development Commission.
He is a member of the CAA Technical and Competitions Commission, contributing to the standardization and growth of athletics competitions across Africa.
