Bandits in early hours of Sunday attacked Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, and kidnapping a man, three girls and their mother.
The armed men storm the community around 1.30am on Sunday shooting sporadically and causing panic amongst the residents. They operated for close to 30 minutes, before leaving the scene with their victims.
“The incident happened during the dark hours at Kakafu. The village is on the outskirts of Patigi, and there are no security personnel who can access the area at that time of the night,” a forest guard was quoted by the Punch.
“The alarm was raised this morning, and we immediately mobilised to the community. We combed the surrounding bush paths but could not trace the attackers or the victims.
“From the information gathered, one man and three females were kidnapped. Further findings indicate that the three females are a mother and her two daughters.
“They did not kill anyone. They only abducted the four victims and fired sporadically to create fear and confusion among the villagers,” he added.
Meanwhile on Saturday gunmen riding on motorbikes raided Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso and Pissa communities in Niger State leaving 30 people dead.
The communities are part of the Borgu region, which is situated on the border with Kwara State, where Islamist militants killed over 160 people earlier this month.
Wasiu Abiodun, Niger State police spokesperson, confirmed the attack on Tunga-Makeri.
“Suspected bandits invaded Tunga-Makeri village … six persons lost their lives, some houses were also set ablaze,” he said, adding that a “yet to be ascertained number of persons were abducted.”
