Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze was a star performer in their 4-1 win over Tottenham in Sunday’s Premier League London derby.
Pressed to deliver results and maintain their led in the tightening title chase, Eze and Vitor Gyokeres were on target to restore Arsenal’s five points lead above their rivals Manchester City.
Speaking after the game Eze said this is the type of job he and his teammates must do if they are to win the Premier League title.
“Today, our efforts were crowned with success, thank God. We performed well. We accomplished what was required of us today, and that is the most important thing,” said Eze.
He noted that Arsenal need to respond big after they drop points against Wolves in their previous match.
“Certainly, this is the most important thing. We are aware of our capabilities. We have to play matches that we control and win, and we have the players capable of doing that. It’s an important win for us, and we will continue the journey.”
Eze opened scoring in the 32nd minute after winning the ball in a midfielder tussle and setting Bukayo Saka on the run, Saka then treaded the ball back to Eze who controlled and tucked in the ball into the net
Kolo Muani equalised for Tottenham in the 34th minute and Arsenal responded with Eze scoring his second from a Saka rebound, before Gyokeres completed the rout.
“I always strive to reach those positions to be ready, to find space, and to work hard to seize those opportunities. It takes a lot to get there, and my efforts paid off today,” Eze said.
On Gyokeres he added: “I was hoping Viktor would deliver this performance throughout the match. You can see how much he contributes to helping the team. Not just with his goals, but with the effort he puts in, as he places players like me in good positions, which helps a lot, and he scored his two goals today, which he certainly deserves.”
