The Lagos State police command has confirmed that one of its officers was shot in the neck and died later in the hospital.
According to an eyewitness the officer was attached to one of the banks in the Coker-Aguda area of Lagos. He was heading on an undisclosed mission when he was attacked by unidentified gunmen around Enitan Street Aguda, Surulere.
The spokesman for the Lagos command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development: “He had left his duty post and was going somewhere inside a tricycle. He actually hired the tricycle and was the only passenger.
“He was attacked, shot and his service pistol taken away. It happened in the afternoon, around 3.00 p.m on Wednesday
“He died in the night.”
He, however, promised that the culprits would soon be apprehended as investigations are ongoing on the matter already.
