Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha is still basking in the glory of his famous goal against Germany legedary goalkeeper Oliver Khan.
According to Okocha who started his Euro soccer career in Germany, that goal earned him worldwide fame and opened doors to greater achievements.
Okocha who was speaking in an interwiew with Sky sports revealed that it was one moment of brilliance he and his fans world would never forget.
It was in 1993 when Okocha was playing for Eintrahct FrankFurt in a game against Khan’s Karlsruhe. Okocha came in as a substitute and he changed the course of his career with an 11 seconds brilliant goal. He was on a good end of counter attack and had only just to shoot past Khan, but Okocha put up one greatest ever shows in Bundelisga with his dribbling moves. He outwitted the entire Karlsruhe defence after his feigning left Khan sprawling on the grass. He went to the left back to the right, before riffling a low shot that sailed into the net. Jurgen Klopp who is now Liverpool manager said it was the best goal ever scored in the Bundesliga.
“Even now, people still talk about it,” said Okocha
” The goal changed a lot for me. It was like the goal that brought me to the limelight in Europe, you know, because it was shown in so many countries. I can only say that I am happy that it happened.
“It ended up working out well for me, you know, but then could you have imagined what would have happened to me if I had missed?”
Asked if there would be another player like in him he said: “I think every player is unique, you know,” says the man himself.
“We have got a lot of talented players in the Bundesliga. But, with all due respect, maybe I was a little bit special.”
