The Police in Enugu State has began investigation of one its offers Vincent Oke who allegedly sexually asaulted a 17-year-old inside a police station.
ASP Oke serving at the Awgu Divisional area of the Enugu Command was also accused of extorting N114, 000 from the girl’s family.
The incident occured on March 18 2022 and the police failed to take action until the girl’s father Godwin Utobo wrote a petition to the State Police Commissioner.
The petition, dated August 3, 2022, is titled: “Petition Against ASP Oke Vincent Serving In Awgu Police Station For sexually Assaulting My Daughter Miss Precious Ojanukwu Who Was Detained In Awgu Police Station And Extortion.”
Enugu Command PRO, Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the development in a statement.
“The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (State CIID) to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the report alleging that one Vincent Oke, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), serving in Awgu Police Division of the Command, segxwally assaulted a 17-year old female detainee, one Precious Ojanukwu, on 18/03/2022.
“The Commissioner, while further directing that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time, has assured that the case will be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, will be appropriately sanctioned.
“The CP notes that the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, which is a disciplined organisation that does not condone acts against the rights and dignity of the person, will leave no stone un-turned in ensuring that justice is duly served to all involved in the case. He therefore, calls on the parties to make available all the necessary information and evidence required in the investigation.”
