Customers and staff at the United Bank of Africa branch at Benson Bus Stop, Ikorodu area of Lagos State were held spellbound on Monday by a man who lost N1m from his account with the bank.
The man who is into buying and selling was at first debited N500,000, and while he was still trying to process what was happening, another debit alert rolled in clearing the whole amount in his account. He rushed to the bank to get answers, which no one at the bank was ready to give him.
According to witnesses at the scene, the young man now went to Ikorodu garage to bring some rough necks and they stormed the branch blocking the entrance and creating a whole lot of scene.
“That was when the branch manager now came down trying to pacify him, but it was to no avail.
“He insisted that he wanted his money back. About an hour later the money was reverted back to his account,” said one of the witnesses who gave her name as Chinwe.
Many UBA and indeed other bank customers have had their accounts cleaned out by fraudsters using some of the banking apps.
“We have always warned our customers not to disclose their pin to anyone,” said one of the UBA staff.
