Nigeria’s 100m hurdles sensation, Tobi Amusan tops the list of 10 nominees for the World Athletics Women Athlete of the Year award.
Amusan smashed the 100mh world record at the World Championships August in Oregon USA, with a time of 12.12seconds. She did the time in the semi-final and in the final she clocked 12.06seconds, but it was adjudged to be wind aid. She went on to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to set a new Games record 12.30 seconds and she finished the Season with a 12.29seconds at the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland, erasing Gail Devers’ 22-year-old meet record.
Other women on the list include Jamaican sprinters Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson World 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas and Kenya’s 1500m world champion Faith Kipyegon
Five athletes will be shortlisted in November before the winner is announced in December.
