Delta State Peoples Democratic Party will find out on October 21 who between Sheriff Oborevwori and David Edevbie is their gubernitorial candidate for the 2023 elections.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver judgment on the appeal case filed by Mr. Edevbie challenging the emergence of Mr. Oborevwori as the party’s flag-bearer for the governorship elections.
Justice Amina Augie presided over a five-man panel that heard arguments from counsels of both contestants in the appeal against the judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal August 29. The Court of Appeal reversed the judgment of a Federal High Court Abuja, which nullified the emergence of Oborevwori as the Party’s candidate.
Mr. Edevbie had challenged the nomination of Obrorevwori who won the PDP primary on May 25, he hinged his argument on the allegation Oborevwori tendered falsified documents presented to the Party.
The Federal Court on July 7, 2022 agreed with Edevbie’s submissions and nullified the outcome of the PDP primary. But Oborevwori was reinstated by the Court of Appeal.
Oborevwori is enjoying the backing of the State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, while former governor James Ibori is pushing on Mr. Edevbie.
