Political economist Kingsley Moghalu said it was disappointing the People Democratic Party presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku could be making tribalist comments capable of plunging the country into a political crisis.
Moghalu, a former Central Bank of Nigeria deputy governor and founder of Young Progressive Party was reacting to a viral online video, in which the former Vice President could be heard telling listeners during a political gathering in Kaduna that Northerners don’t need any Ibo or Yoruba president.
“I was very disappointed to view the video clip of H.E. Atiku Abubakar @atiku, a former Vice-President of Nigeria, telling an audience in Kaduna that what the North needs is a northerner to be President, and not a Yoruba or Igbo candidate.
“All candidates in the 2023 presidential election must avoid ethnic or other divisive sentimental appeals,” Moghalu said on his twitter handle
