Business activities were brought to a standstill Wednesday at the Alaba International Market as traders and hoolums clashed over collection of levies.
It was gathered that troubled started when the Lagos State Parks and Garages transport unions in the area demand payment from the market task force, but the argument heated up and the skirmishes became bloody, All the shops were closed as the hoodlums in their hundreds and armed with dangerous weapon descended on the market
Many were injured as the fight continued for a period of time before the intervention of the Rapid Response Squad and policemen from the area.
Lagos State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said in a tweet that calm has now been restored.
“Normalcy has been restored. @rrslagos767 and men of Ojo Division are on ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues,” he tweeted.
