Shortly after their highly contested third place match of the FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in India, Nigeria and Germany girls showed the world how much friendship people can foster living in the peace and harmony.
A video of the girls dancing to Kizz Daniels ‘Cough’ had social media buzzing as the girls twerked to the sound of the beat. Perhaps world soccer governing body can use the video in it’s promotion of fair play and anti racism campaign in football.
Earlier in the day both teams were at each other throat as they contested for the bronze medal at stake. Nigeria were three goals ahead, but the Germans fought back to equalize, how the Nigerians have the last laugh in the penalty shootout. It was their third PSO in the tournament. They beat USA in the shootout in the quarter final, lost to Colombia in the semi-final and refused to yield to the German who had beaten them 2-1 in the group stages. They German girls also came from behind in that group B match to beat the Flamingos.
Spain won the tournament second time in row, after they beat Colombia 1-0 in the final through an own goal. For many football fans the Nigerian/German third place match was the most exciting match of the tournament. They still had the energy to party in the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Super Eagles coach Jose Poseiro congratulated the team.
“This is a victory for the Government and good people of Nigeria,” said Gusau
The girls and their technical and administrative crew did very well to win something from this tournament and give Nigeria joy. I commend their determination and commitment to a noble goal.”
Poseiro said in a tweet:
