Bayelsa Queens would be writing their own history when they take on AS Far of Morocco in Wednesday semi-final of the CAF Women Champions League.
After their opening day defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, Bayelsa picked themselves up and are one match away from reaching the final, if they can overcome the Moroccan club side they would it would be a historic achievement for the team making its debut in the competition.
AS Far are a formidable side, they beat Rivers Angels in the 2021 final match and have gone on so far without a defeat. Twelve of their players were in the Moroccan national team that defeated the the Super Falcons in the semi-finals of the African Women Cup of Nations in July.
“We have the advantage of knowing the identity of our next opponent (AS Far), it is a great team, but Bayelsa Queens are also a great team. It’s going to be a great battle,” said Bayelsa Queens striker Mercy Itimi
“We must remain very vigilant in our quest to make history as the first Nigeria team to win the title.”
Bayelsa Queens have proved that they have a potent strike force and they can just surprise AS Far. Bayelsa Queens six goals have been scored by five different players, only Mercy Itimi has scored multiple goals for Bayelsa Queens she scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Wadi Degla. With five different goal scorers scoring for them Bayelsa Queens have the second most number of players contributing with a goal.
