Bayelsa Queens were too distraught to eat their breakfast after they lost 1-0 to As Far in the semi-final of the CAF Women Champions League tournament in Morocco.
Bayelsa Queens must now gather themselves up and play the third place game against Simba Queens of Tanzania on Saturday.
It was Bayelsa Queens second loss of the 2022 CAF WCL Finals, both of their losses have been by a single goal margin. They also lost their opening game to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies enduring a 1-2 reverse.
They dominated the game against AS Far but failed to score in the encounter. It was the first time Bayelsa Queens did not score in the tournament. Glory Edet was one of the most influential players in the game as she had 4 shots at goal, 3 of which were on target.
Speaking on the outcome of the game Bayelsa State commissioner for sports Daniel Igali said, the girls gave it their best.
“The mood expectedly is down. They even refused to have breakfast this morning,” he said.
“We spoke with them this morning to put this loss behind them. The team had a good match, we almost killed them, especially in the second half. But it was just not our day.
“I may be biased. I watched our match against Mamelodi Sundowns and virtually every team that has played here, on the balance of play, we were the best team all round in this tournament. Though results went against us. We will go back to Nigeria with our heads unbowed.”
