The second edition of the Nigeria Army Combat Swimming Championships will begin on November 28 at the National Stadium swimming pool, complex Surulere Lagos.
Army formations from all the country are expected to compete in the championships. Swimmers from all army formations have been in training in preparation for the championships which is in male and female categories. Top brass of the Nigeria Army are expected to grace the competition where trophies and medals would be won by the participating formations.
“The essence of Championships is to create physical fitness on the part of the soldier to be ready for combat in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision in the defence of the country.
“Other combat formations are equally training and all the teams would be here to contest and a winner must emerge. We are looking forward to an exciting competition,” Captain Abdulrahman Abdul of the Lagos formation.
Over 300 swimmers are expected to compete in the two-day contest , which is also aimed at moving sporting activities in the Army from the realm of sports, but also to the thresholds of training for combat operations.
