Mama feeding fat: NANS set to protest against first lady, IGP

The continued imprisonment of Aminu Adamu Mohammed over an alleged defamatory tweet against the first lady Aisha Buhari has drawn the ire of Nigerian students. And students nationwide have planned a protest on Monday December 5, 2022 to press for the release of Adamu Mohammed, a final year student of the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State. According to a statement by the National Association of Nigerian Students, the imprisonment of the student amounts to highhandedness after NANS had pleaded with the first lady to forgive and forget. Aminu Mohammed was whisked from his school in November and was detained by the others of the first lady. He was brought to court on Tuesday and arraigned on charges of defamation, a bailable offence, but was sent back to prison. “Sequel to the exhaustion of every option available to us before confrontation in seeking the freedom of one of us, who was arrested in a questionable manner, tortured, molested, harassed and detained by agents of the government, you are hereby notified of the decision of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students to proceed on a nationwide protest,” said the statement signed by NANS president Usman Umar Barambu. “We have consulted and consolidated and neither yielded desirable results in seeking the freedom of Aminu Adamu Mohammed, student of the Federal University of Dutse, hence, the protest will commence as follow: “Monday 5th, December 2022, nationwide protest. Please note that the demonstration shall continue until he is released unconditionally. “The protest is against the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and wife of the president, Aisha Mohammed Buhari.”
