French striker Kylian Mbappe scored the second goal of their 2-0 win over Poland in the FIFA World Cup round of 16 to set up a quarter-final date with England.
Mbappe who is now topping the Qatar 2022 scorers chart said he has always been ready to deliver for France at the tournament.
“I built my season on this competition, physically and mentally,” Mbappe told reporters.
“I wanted to arrive ready. It’s going well so far.
“But we are still far from the objective that we have set and that I have set myself, which is to win!”
Before the tournament began, the French squad lost key players to the team that would play prominent roles, such as Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. Nevertheless, Mbappe has stepped up in the absence of the Ballon d’Or winner.
