Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has stressed the need to win all their games of the World Cup qualifiers and ensure that the team book their place in the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles will start their qualifying campaign Thursday with Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom and then travel to Harare to play Zimbabwe on Sunday. Omeruo, said the Eagles missing the last World Cup in Qatar should be a reminder of disappointment of losing to Ghana and the team must avoid a repeat as they campaign in group C of the qualifiers also featuring South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Benin Republic.
“It’s an important one for us. We missed out on the last World Cup, so we want to take this seriously. We have to do what we have to do to get our tickets for the next World Cup,” Omeruo said.
“We’ve played both teams in the past, and the most important thing is to stick to our game plan and take the game very seriously. We have to win both games.”
He said the World Cup is the highest point any player can aspire to play in a football contest.
“The memories, it’s a dream to play at the World Cup, and there’s nothing compared to the atmosphere. It’s something they have to witness. It’s an amazing tournament because you get to see Nigerians travelling all over the World to support their country, and we’re looking forward to another World Cup.”
