Academic Staff Union of Universities is ready to call off the six month-long strike action, but the Federal government is not ready to accede to one of the sticky points of the lecturers’ demand.
According to ASUU they would now go back and consult with members on the next line of action.
“All contentious issues between the government and ASUU had been settled except the quest for members’ salaries for the period of strike to be paid, a demand that Buhari has flatly rejected,” Minister of Education Adama Adamu said in Abuja.
He added that the no-work-no-pay issue is a major roadblock in the negotiations, Adamu insisted that the lecturers must bear responsibility for their actions.
He was optimistic that by next week some of the Universities would be reopened.
