Edo State-born Peter Freeman-Alietor was on Monday evening celebrated on his birthday by his family, friends and fans at the Ojez Sports Cafe and Night club Ebute Meta, Lagos.
It was sure a night to remember for the 74-year-old bass guitarist who on every Monday is ever present to turn out melodious tunes with the Ojez All Star Band. Freeman-Alietor was bubbling with life as he danced and received high fives from well wishers at the event. According him, he would continue to jam till his very last day on earth.
“I’m going to play music for as long as my body can carry on,” Freeman-Alietor reeled out with glee.
“Being a musician is the best job I know how to do, I’ve been a musician all my life, the first salary I earned on this earth is by playing bass guitar, I have no other job but music though I engage in fine arts and painting during my spare time.”
Speaking on the surprise birthday bash he said: “I feel high being celebrated by the Ojez group, I’m happy seeing celebrations with my friends and fans… Thanks to them all for celebrating this day with me.”
On the secret behind his agility and longevity he added: “There is no secret.
“I see myself going to bed and waking up everyday just like everyone else. It is God who made it to be so, reaching today’s milestone, I’m thanking God, this not to say we are better than those who have gone before us. Everything is just by God’s grace.
“My advice to up and coming musicians, is they should know what they want and go for it, and know how to go about it. And then of course should be patient, because that thing they want with hard work and prayer God will make it come true for them.”
