World queen of the 100m hurdles Tobi Amusan after capping her season with a win and a record at the Diamond League Weltklasse meet, Zurich, Switzerland said her goal next year would be to run a sub 12.
Amusan ran 12.29 seconds on Thursday to erase Gail Devers’ 12.39 meet record, which the legendary American hurdler set in 2000. 2022 is Amusan break through season and she did great things no one in track and field expected from her. First it was the 12.12 World record in the World Championships in Oregon USA and then the Commonwealth Games 12.30secs in Birmingham.
In 2023 the world championships will be run in Hungary, Amusan is not just hoping to defend her title, she is aiming to go under 12 seconds.
“God’s been great, it was a rocky start to the season,” she said after winning her race in Zurich.
“The World Championships and Commonwealth Games took their toll on my body, but showing up when I needed to has been great.
“Breaking the world revealed to me that there is so much to do in hurdles. Next year I always put God first…I’m going to put in more practice and do more work, yes a 12 sub is posible.”
