Controversial clergyman Apostle Suleiman Johnson escaped death with his wife and children, but seven others were killed when suspected assassins laid an ambush and opened fire on his travelling convoy in Auchi Edo State.
The dead include three policemen in the lead vehicle, two drivers in the tailing vehicles and two other passenger riding in the convoy.
Apostle Suleiman who was speaking in a video he posted online, narrated:
“I escaped an assassination attempt. Seven people have been killed,” he said
“My car was attacked, they kept on spraying it with bullets, my wife and my kids were in the car, the policemen in the escort car were killed.
“The people in the bus behind my car were also killed. we were all moving in a convoy.
“I’m well and the family is fine, but we are mourning those that have lost their lives,” he said.
He blamed the attack on “people who have been trying to pull him down since 2017.”
Apostle Suleiman who was riding in a bullet proof SUV said he knew those behind the attack but would not mention their names.
“For those who have been calling I’m alive and I want to say that my life is in the hand of God, I am a man of God and I cannot be killed.”
Edo State Police command confirmed the incident saying they are investigating the shooting, but would not say for now if it was an assassination attempt or robbery. According to the police, one of the gunmen was killed and a vehicle they used in the operation is in police custody.
