Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, a.k.a Tems said she is excited about her contributing to ‘Lift me up’ which was released by superstar Rihana Friday.
The song is one of the soundtracks for Marvel Comics upcoming Black Panther:Wakanda Forever. It was Rihana’s first release in six years. Tems who penned the song said it was a tribute to Chadwick Boseman the Black Panther actor who died at 43 of cancer in 2020.
Rihana who also released ‘Shirt’ praised Tems in a Tweet Friday: ” It’s the pen for me, love to you sistren.”
Tems respond on her instagram page: “Blessed to have written this song in honour of Chadwick Boseman and even more blessed to hear the baddest @badgalriri voice it to perfection.”
Other contributors to the song include Robyn Fenty, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Goransson who also produced it.
Tems spoke broadly about the song in a press release. “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” she said.
“I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me, so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
