Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, Peter Obi Saturday flagged off his campaign in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Obi, who had just finished touring States devastated by floods, arrived at Lafia with his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party national chairman and members of the campaign council.
“Whoever thinks that the Labour Party or Obi-dient movement or Peter Obi as an individual is not being welcomed in the north, they are making a huge mistake,” vice presidential candidate Baba-Ahmed said
“Awareness has been very high in the north. What happens is that northerners listen more to the politicians and the politicians seem to have more impact on the populace in the north and awareness is pretty high,” he said.
The Director General of Obi’s campaign council, Doyin Okupe said the campaign will tour all the six geopolitical regions of the country, ensuring that it was time to prove the Obidient movement was not only trending on social media, but has presence in all major cities and communities in the country.
Meanwhile Obi has debunked claims that he gave loaves of bread to victims of floods during his visits to devastated areas. Obi who was speaking on Arise TV said: ” What Nigerians are going through in the flood is far more devastating. It is far more than what we had in 2012. The entire Bayelsa, apart from government houses and a few other places, is under water.
“I never provided bread or food during my tour. What you saw were people bringing food on their own.
“What I did was donate money. I asked how many people there were in each IDP camp and then made donations. Some of them didn’t have one naira on them.”
