Following Thursday’s whitewash of the Super Eagles by World Cup bound Portugal, Nigeria Football Federation has called on Nigerian fans to be patient with the Portuguese born coach Jose Peseiro.
Portugal without Cristiano Ronaldo totally outclassed the Super Eagles scoring two goals in each half to further smear coach Peseiro’s winning record with the national team since taking over in February. He won just two games out of seven, the 4-0 beating by Portugal was his fifth straight loss.
“He has just started and we need to be patient with him,” said an NFF official
“He has also won the two games that were important, that is the qualifiers for the Nations Cup. Friendlies are just friendlies, and we will judge him on the qualifiers.”
Peseiro admitted that the Eagles were out of depth against Portugal. He said “We have to improve and improve a lot. It was a first half below what we expected, the second was much better.
“Portugal was better, they are superior, they have a great selection, but the scoreline is heavy and exaggerated because we could have made it 2-1 and then we suffered 0-3 and 0-4. We cannot concede four goals and some of them the way they were.”
