Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged Nigerians not to allow politicians obtain their Permanent Voters Card as this constitutes an electoral offence.
This is coming on the heels of allegations that politicians are buying up PVC with which they intend to use to manipulates votes to favour them in the up coming 2023 general elections.
Speaking at during an event #Yourvotematters by an election observer group NESSACTION in Abuja , Mohammed Haruna the national commissioner in charge of the FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau states, said: “Some of you are aware that only recently, INEC managed to convict two people, who were found guilty of illegal possession of PVCs in Kano and Sokoto.
” So, I urge people to connect their PVCs, keep it safe, and make sure that on Election Day, you go out there and cast your votes because, of course, without your PVC you cannot vote.”
Meanwhile INEC said move voters from congest polling units in Ekiti State and reallocate them to polling unit with lesser numbers.
According to Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Ayobami Salami, this was to make “to make voting process in 2023 general elections devoid of rigours and stress for voters and as well enhance security.”
“The commission is planning to migrate some voters who fall within the densely populated polling units with the aim of decongesting such polling units and give room for the sparsely populated ones that are within the same cluster or location to be populated.”
