Israel Monday leveled the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syrian, killing a top Islamic Revolutionary Guards commander Brig-Gen Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and five others.
Syrian news agency Sana, citing an unnamed military source, said the building in the tightly guarded neighbourhood of Mazzeh, was levelled. Emergency crews were searching for bodies under the rubble.
The Israeli military did not comment. Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years.
Since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, there has been cross border clashes between Israel forces and Hezbollah militants backed by Iran and based in Syria and Lebanon.
