Nollywood actor, Pope Odonwodo a.k.a Junior Pope, 39, and three others were involved in a boat accident on their way to a filming location in Anambra State.
Junior Pope and three others were traveling on the Anam River, when their boat capsized on Wednesday.
But there are conflicting reports on whether the men are alive or dead.
“Four actors including Jnr Pope fell into Anam River on their way to a location and their bodies have been recovered.
“What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” filmmaker Samuel Olatunji wrote on his Instagram page.
However, Actors Guild of Nigeria president Emeka Rollas debunked the suggestion the actors were dead. He wrote on his Instagram page: “What God cannot do does not exist. Junior Pope is alive and taking treatment in the hospital.”
He added in a Channels TV interview that when Junior Pope’s body was brought to the mortuary, the attendant confirmed that he still has life in him and he was later revived.
Also veteran actor and former chairman AGN Lagos chapter, Don Pedro Aganbi, chimed in:”Junior Pope is recovering at a hospital in Asaba as we speak.
“The others are being resuscitated and they are likely to make it.”
But later in the night at about 10.00pm it was gathered that Pope Junior lost the battle to stay alive.
Nollywood has been has been hit by strings of death this year. Those that have passed on include John Okafor a.k.a Ibu, Sisi Quadri and Deji Aderemi a.k.a Olofa Ina.
