Embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele has been granted a N50m bail by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja.
Emefiele, had been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since he was arraigned along side Henry Omoile at the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja last Monday on a 26 count charge for abuse of office. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Emefiele and Omoile were accused of accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption, and fraudulent property receipts.
EFCC lawyer Rotimi Oyedepo, did not oppose the bail application made by Emefiele’s counsel Abdulakeem Ladi-Lawal.
Presiding judge, Rahmon Oshodi, admitted Emefiele on bail with two sureties in like sum. Omoile, however, remains in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
