Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno has ordered the reburial of Abigail Frederick, the makeup artist who died in the tragic boat accident on the Anam River last week.
The 24-year-old Fredericks died with four others including Pope Odonwodo a.k.a Junior Pope. She was hurriedly buried by the river bank as her family couldn’t afford the cost of bringing her corpse home. She was among 12 passengers traveling on the boat to a filming location, when it crashed into a fishing boat and capsized.
Governor Eno who paid a condolence to Fredericks’ family home in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area Saturday, gave directives that her remain be exhumed and brought back home for proper burial.
“We have also followed and read the reportage, especially on the social media platforms surrounding her burial and wish to state categorically that, government was not informed of the circumstances that led to her burial.
“Governor Eno has consequently directed that her body be brought back to her family for a proper and decent burial,” Mr Ekerete Udoh the governor’s media adviser said in a statement.
The governor, according to the statement, offered automatic employment to the elder sister of the deceased and promised to assist the two sisters of the deceased who are undergraduates at the University of Uyo, Uyo.
The governor also directed the renovation of the family house to bring it up to modern standards.
