Nigerian boxer Rasheed Idowu will receive the Universal Boxing Organisation African light-heavyweight belt after knocking down Ghanaian opponent Bastie Samir during a contest in Accra, Ghana but officials declared the fight a technical draw.
There was a bedlam after the announcement made by the officials in the April 13 fight for the vacant UBO African Light-Heavyweight belt. The bizarre footage went viral on X, with up to a million views and thousand people commenting on the shaddy activity.
In round two, a big left hook sends Samir crashing through the ropes, but he bravely gets back to his feet. Patiently, Rasheed jabs his man back to the corner where he slams in uppercuts and hooks, a final big left hook to the chin crumpling Samir heavily to the canvas. It was the sixth knock win for Idowu a.k.a ID Buster who had gone 5-1-1, 5KO, before the controversial match.
The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control had protested the decision and on Thursday they received the belt from the UBO that reward the fight to Idowu. According to Segun Aboderin, who is the the Secretary NBBofC, the belt has been sent to the President of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) for Idowu to be decorated.
It also stated that the Ibadan-based Idowu Rasheed would be decorated by the Oyo State Governor.
