Participating athletes and games masters scored the 3rd Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Championships with high marks when the event ended on Friday.
Also Edo State Sports Commission executive chairman, Yusuf Alli and the
Edo Athletics Association chairman, Dele Edokpayi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the championships, which ran from April 25-26 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
“This is a competition we always looked forward to and I’m glad competing for the second time,” said Treasure Omosivwe of Jato Grammer school Benin City who set a meet record of 1.55m in the high jump and got a brand new spikes shoes.
“Without this competition we wouldn’t have the opportunity of performing and dreaming of representing Edo State and Nigeria at future events.”
Mr. Edokpayi who made who made a donation of N1.1m said: “The championships is a major step towards revival of athletics in the country, we must support Mabel Madojiemu in whatever way we can.
“From this Championships we have seen talents who we can groom to become world champions.”
