The Police in Enugu State has arrested a teenager who conspired with her mother to kill her newborn baby moments after delivery.
According to the Police Ada Joy Okonwko,18, on November 7 2022, used a kitchen knife to stab the newborn after she was told to proceed by her mother Christiana Okonkwo,60, at their residence Olocha-Adogba in Awgu community, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the said mother of the newborn male child used a kitchen knife to stab the child to death, following the counselling of her mother moments after she was delivered of the baby at home,” said Enugu command spokesman Daniel Ndukwe.
He said the police are now investigating the case with a view to find out why the baby’s mother and grandmother committed the homicide, adding that the duo would be taken to court to face trial.
The murder of the newborn caused a stir in the community, as women staged a peaceful protest in the wake of the gruesome murder.
