It was a feast of high fives and felicitations for members of the 1982 set of the Baptist High School Eku, in Ethiope East, Delta State, when they met for the first time in 40 years.
The classmates could not hide their feelings on Saturday March 23, 2024, as they visited their old school premises and relived memories of their stay in the four walls of learning.
Police Commissioner Victor Erivwode hosted the gathering, which was long overdue. Other old boys and girls present include Chief Idris Oyibo a businessman and a kingmaker in the Idghere Kingdom, Edmond Igbedion an Agricultural entrepreneur, Reverend Richard Obaroakpo of Baptist Church Eku, Gilbert Atsegbahan a lecturer at the Delta State University Abraka, Appolonia Ovie a Warri based business woman, Eguono Isiorho, Joseph Okoh an Educationist, Kingsley Okoedion, Samuel Akusu and Fred Okugbeni.
Also present at the get together were Emuobosan Ugborugbo an old boy who is the current Principal of BHSE and senior boy Ese Agiri who observered proceedings.
Speaking at the occasion chief host Police Commissioner Erivwode said: “I really want to appreciate the class for the privilege to host this meeting.
“Am very honored to have all the great people I have not seen in 42 years. I want to congratulate us on the deliverables from the parley. I hope we sustain this warm conviviality as we truly need more relationships as we get older.”
In their deliberations members of BHSE Class of 82 spoke of ways to improve on infrastructural and human development of the school they left 42 years ago.
Other members of the class who were unavoidably absent on seeing the videos of the proceedings promised to make themselves available for the next gathering, these include Hon Austin Uroye member Delta State House of Assembly, Chris Omosivwe a business executive, Madam Kate Ahimiem Abu, Florence Oweh, Nathaniel Okouimose, Stephen Nana, Allison Okoro, Ben Efe and Blessings Gbingie who is angling to host the next meeting alongside Chief Oyibo in Warri later in the year.
